In the light of a couple of comments made to me at last months members' party I thought I'd more openly spell out our policy for bands and performers at Club Bohemia. For those that hate reading too much here it is simply "we welcome everyone to come and perform at Club Bohemia, we always have and always will see the club as your club and we want everyone to get involved".

What this means in practical terms is that if you wish to perform a piece at the club be it 1 minute long or an hour spectacular, be you one person or a whole troupe of artists we'd be interested in hearing from you and hopefully be able to put you onto our (admittedly quite small) stage. It doesn't matter if you are a complete amateur and have never performed before, or a seasoned performer with years of experience, we welcome everyone. Indeed we welcome first timers all the more, because we hope we can provide an environment where people can grow and display their art. We have a friendly crowd at our club nights and people don't expect the acts to be 100% polished and professional (although if they are we won't complain!). But a bit of amateurism is fine as long as it's backed up with a lot of enthusiasm. This doesn't mean we will put on just anything. The pieces must be thought through, rehearsed, preferably original and be something we feel are appropriate for the night - this doesn't mean our monthly themes; but more pieces that are in keeping with the general style of the club (although we don't strictly enfore this). So if you have an idea for something you'd like to perform at our club, then please do get in touch with me to discuss it and hopefully you can use Club Bohemia as the stage to display your craft.

If you are in a band and wish to perform the rules are slightly different. Firstly the music must be something we think our crowd will enjoy and fit in with the feeling of the club. Secondly we generally like to have bands on from between 15-30 minutes, any longer and we find people's attention begins to wander unless it is a band that people already know and love. So if you think you fit the bill then we'd love to hear from you. If you have mp3s we can listen to, then that's the simplest way, so send us a private message or email with links to your mp3s. If you'd rather send us a CD then contact us and we'll tell you where to post them.

We think we are a bit different from most clubs and genuinely want to nourish new talent and give people a place to perform. So, if you have the ideas, we have the stage, so please do get in touch.
